MPEG2 hardware encoder recommended?

Hello,

for the project we are developing, we are looking for an MPEG2
encoder/decoder board that provides directshow support, that is, it should
come bundled with a pack of directshow filters that allow us to insert its
encoding/decoding capabilities into a directshow graph.

We need real time MPEG2 encoding, and we would like that this process
don't slow down the rest of applications running on the same machine, so
we must use a board that encodes and decodes MPEG2 by hardware.

We would also like the board manufacturer to have a developer's support
program and to keep an open and evolving line of MPEG2 boards.

We have tested these boards, without success, because they don't support
directshow:

- Optibase 200.
- Matrox RT X100

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

The WinTV-PVR 250 and 350 boards from www.hauppauge.com mount a hardware
encoder (both) and a decoder (only the 350). At least the 250 is certified
for XP-MCE, so they should both support DirectShow.

The Xcard and Netstream cards from www.sigmadesigns.com have a hardware
decoder and both support DirectShow.

I can't vouch for the functionality of the filters however.

This newsgroup was superseded by the newsgroups
microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video and
microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.audio several years ago. They
are the appropriate groups for DirectShow video and audio questions.

microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video and . audio are MSDN managed
newsgroups. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/managed/ for details.

Microsoft also added microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.managed for
DirectX/DirectShow .NET and managed code questions when DirectX 9 was
released. Just to add to the confusion, it is not an MSDN managed newsgroup
(managed refers to two different things).

I recommend you repost your question to the appropriate newsgroup listed
above so that we don't get the cross-posting / multi-posting /
multi-answering problem that happens as a result of having multiple
newsgroups and a retired newsgroup for the same technology. Of course, you
are under no obligation to heed my advice. The purpose of my
recommendation is to streamline the answers in the most active Microsoft
newsgroups and to make you aware of the MSDN managed newsgroups if you are
an MSDN subscriber.

General tips:

- the main DirectX site is http://www.microsoft.com/directx

- the main MSDN Library site for DirectShow is
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/directx/htm/directshow.asp

- often the fastest way to find an answer to your question is to search on
Google Groups which keeps a complete archive of most newsgroups
(http://groups.google.com)

- the most relevant Google Groups archive for DirectX Video programming is
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&c2coff=1&safe=off&group=microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video

- a good introductory book for DirectShow is
http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/6381.asp

That's okay. Things have been more organized lately thanks to your
cooperation. I was on the road last week, was lax about getting on the ngs
and worried things would get messy again.
