Detecting Microphone input on HD Audio system

Is there a way to reliably detect the presence of a Microphone input on
an HD Audio supported system?? What I am seeing when a poll mixer
connections is Blue-In, Red-In, etc. but no reference to Microphone of
any sort. Am I to assume "Red-In" is the microphone channel?? Thanks
